British Values

The DfE have reinforced the need "to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs."

The Government set out its definition of British values in the Prevent Strategy: these values are reinforced regularly and in the following ways:

  • democracy
  • rule of law
  • individual liberty
  • mutual respect
  • tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

We teach British Values through planning and delivering a broad and balanced curriculum.

Madresfield Parliament

At Madresfield, we believe that our children should have a voice in shaping the school community they are part of. Madresfield Parliament is our pupil voice group, with representatives from Year 1 to Year 6, led by our Head Girl and Head Boy.

Inspired by the way the British Parliament works, our children work together to discuss issues, share ideas and find solutions that can make a positive difference to our school and wider community.

Madresfield Parliament is organised into three teams:

Environmental Team
Our Environmental Team helps to keep our school clean, tidy and energy efficient. They encourage everyone to care for our environment and explore ways we can make a positive ecological difference within our local community.

Values Team
Our Values Team helps us to live out our Christian values each day. They look for opportunities to recognise and celebrate examples of love, joy, hope and forgiveness, encouraging everyone to treat others with kindness, respect and compassion.

Wellbeing Team
Our Wellbeing Team champions the physical and mental health of our school community. They promote opportunities for children to talk, connect and look after themselves and one another, while also raising awareness and funds to support the importance of positive mental health.

Through Madresfield Parliament, we want every child to feel that their voice matters, their ideas are valued and they can make a difference.
