Friends of Madresfield School

The School's involvement with the local community continues to be strong, with good support for the school from families and friends of the pupils.

Dear Parents/Carers

As a parent/carer of a pupil(s) of the school, you are automatically a member of The Friends of Madresfield School. Everyone is welcome to attend all meetings which generally take place in school.

As the group is a charity, it has a committee which is led by a Chair person, Vice-chair person, Treasurer, Secretary and Press Secretary who help piece events together with a band of helpers from across the whole school.

The Committee appreciates all offers of help and support, ranging from a few minutes selling raffle tickets to the organisation of a whole event. Several of our parents are unable to attend every meeting but help ‘behind the scenes’ offering a variety of services ranging from auditing accounts, gathering information to help with events/projects, building our spectacular school garden and counting bounces for a sponsored bounce.

Please let us know if YOU can help in any way. Do not feel that too much will be asked of you; most of the current Committee also have many family and work commitments which limit their level of involvement.

Becoming involved with The Friends can be a good way to get to know other parents/carers and the Staff in a more informal way. For ‘adults only’ we have held a ‘Mad Spring Bash’ in the playrooms at Madresfield Court and have Quiz and Bingo nights.

For the children (and staff) we prepare a hot Christmas lunch followed by a party and visit from Santa and we have also run film nights for the whole school. We book a professional D.J. for the End of Year Disco.

Family events have included Murder Mystery Evening, Family Quiz, Family discos, and an Autumn festival with stalls, activities and live music (MADFEST). We try to cater for everyone.

If you require further information about the Friends, please ask any committee member or leave a message at the School Office and we will get back to you.

Our fund-raising activities help to finance resources at the school which the Local Authority budget cannot cover.

Recent projects include financing:

• The school garden (with a raised bed for each year group)

• Visiting performers

• New netball posts

• Wellie racks for each year group

• Woodland school for the Reception Class

• Dictionaries for the whole school

• New guided reading books

• A bird box with a camera to be linked to School computers
